MIT Energy Community

There is a flurry of energy-related activities on campus.  Some of the major clubs and organizations running these events are below.  Much of the student leadership and membership of each club overlaps with the others, depending on interest and goals.

MIT Energy Club at Sloan
:  Open to Sloan MBA, LGO, Fellow students, and alumni, we focus on the business, finance, and strategic issues of the energy industry and interactions with the environment.  The club sponsors lectures from industry leaders, one-on-one interactions with executives via their breakfast series and Massachussets/Silicon Valley/Middle East/Europe Energy treks.  Our club collaborates with other student clubs on campus including the MIT Sustainability Club, MIT Venture Capital and Private Equity Club to organize events that promotes the diffusion of current issues in the Energy and Environment Industry.  We also interact closely with the MIT Sloan Career Development Office to sponsor energy-related company info sessions and recruiting events.

MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI):  The MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI), established in September 2006, is an Institute-wide initiative designed to help transform the global energy system to meet the needs of the future and to help build a bridge to that future by improving today's energy systems. Through its research program, MITEI addresses a critical link in the energy innovation chain—the pairing of MIT's world-class research teams with the best in industry who will be responsible for moving the products of this collaboration into the energy marketplace.

MIT Energy Club:  This is the large, campus-wide energy club, and has around 1500 members both internal and external to MIT.  The club focuses on fact-based analysis and community building in the energy sphere.  It's largest events are the Energy Night in the fall, and MIT Energy Conference in the spring.  The club sponsors and hosts numerous guest lectures, forums, seminars, and socials.

MIT Clean Energy Prize:  A division of the MIT $100K Competition specializing in clean energy.  It is a business plan competition that gave away over $0.5M in awards last year to growing startups.  The CEP is funded mainly by the DoE and NSTAR, and open to entries from any university.
